Reviews of Quip – online collaborative writing software

Quip is an online writing software which has collaborative writing and editing as its main aim. In terms of text formatting, Quip has 6 options as follows.

– three font sizes (small, medium, and large)
– three list forms (bullet, numbered and checklist)

You can also insert image, table, and links to documents with the app and to websites.

Collaboration is the most essential feature of Quip. Several people can work on the same documents using various apps like web-based app, IOS app and Android App.

What each person wrote for the document is shown on the left side bar of a browser, which makes it easier to check who wrote what.

Quip also supports folder feature to group your documents.

One drawback of Quip is that the sync of a document between mobile app and the web-based software is not done in real-time. Changes made on the web app are shown only after a mobile app (especially IOS app I tested) was restarted. This is rather disappointing performance compared to that of Simplenote.

I think Quip can be best used as a collaborative tool for an organization. It could also be useful for a group of writers working on the same writing project.
